We invite young film makers not older than 27 years from all countries to submit their films (produced either alone or in groups). The age of the film maker in the year of production is decisive. Applicants may enter one or more works.

We do not charge entry fee.
submission online: Please fill out the entry form. Please note: films by submitters residing in Germany take part in the competition for the award 'Deutscher Nachwuchsfilmpreis' (German Newcomer Prize).
All postage for all submissions of preview material to the Hannover Festival must be paid by the submitter. The postage for the return of films selected for showing at the festival will be paid by the festival. Preview copies will not be returned. All shipments from non European Union member states must be sent with a customs declaration on the packaging stating the following: 'For temporary, cultural purposes only - no commercial value'.

All works must have been completed after 1st of september 2019.
If the original language of the film is neither English or German, the film should be subtitled in one of these two languages. Otherwise an English or German dialogue list should be enclosed.
formats
For preview: please send a web-link to download the MP4 file (s.a. Vimeo, DropBox, WeTransfer...). There are no limits to subject or duration. All works must have been completed after 1st of september 2019. If the original language of the film is neither English or German, the preview copy should be subtitled in one of these two languages. Otherwise an English or German dialogue list should be enclosed.
All films will be viewed by an independent pre-selection jury which will then compose the festival's competition program, both for the German and the international competition.
The selection criteria do not emphasize technical perfection but originality, autonomy of the concept and how the concept has been translated into film.
rights
The participant guarantees that by using the film in the context of the up-and-coming Int. Film Festival Hannover 2021, no rights of third parties (picture, sound and music), including persons depicted in the film, are infringed. up-and-coming reserves the right to demand appropriate proof of these rights and to reject the submission upon failure to provide it.
jury and awards
The festival is both a German and an international competition. Each selected film and its director will be introduced by the festival presenters.
At the end of the festival, the jury will award prizes: 'UP-AND-COMING INTERNATIONAL FILM AWARD' in the international competition and 'Deutscher Nachwuchsfilmpreis' (GERMAN NEWCOMER AWARD) in the national competition.
For the first time there will be the 'up-and-coming Audience Film Award'.
These prizes are an initiative of the up-and-coming festival and are awarded as a film comet (glass sculpture).
All decisions by the pre-selection jury and the festival jury are final and may not be contested. Film makers whose entries have been selected for competition will be informed by email only. Therefore, please make sure to provide a valid email address with your submission.
